This page: Learn to spell words with the combination of the letter I and the letter E.

There is a famous phrase that American children learn to help with spelling.
"I before E except after C"
In words that have the combination of the letter I with the letter E, generally the I comes before E, except after the letter C.
| ie | ei (after c) |
| believe | ceiling |
| friend | deceive |
| belief | receive |
| piece | perceive |
| chief | deceit |
Unfortunately, there are many exceptions to this rule. In words where the combination of letters sounds like the long A sound (phonetic sound /eI/, the letter E comes before I even if there is no C.
There are other words that do not follow any of the rules mentioned above.
Select "Correct" if the word is spelled correctly, and "Incorrect" if it is incorrect.
Write a sentence using one of the words from this lesson.
example
I ate a piece of cake for dessert.
