Four ways to say "How are you?"

How are you? (normal)

How are you doing? (a little more informal)

How are things? (informal)

How's it going? (very informal)

 

Four ways to say "Nice to meet you."

Nice to meet you. (normal)

It's a pleasure to meet you. (formal)

Pleased to meet you. (a little formal)

How do you do? (a little formal)

 

Exercise - Greetings and introductions

Select the most appropriate sentence for each situation.

Dialogue #1 - "At a Job Interview" (a formal situation)

Susan -   Hi! I'm Susan. I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Susan.    

Mr. Jones -   It's a pleasure to meet you. How do you do?    

Susan -   How's it going? How are you? How are things?    

Mr. Jones - I'm great. And you?

 

Dialogue #2 - "At a Party" (an informal situation)

Max -   Sally, this is Fred. Fred, this is Sally. Sally, I'd like to introduce Fred.    

Fred -   It's a pleasure to meet you. Nice to meet you.    

Sally - Nice to meet you too.

Fred -   How's it going? How are you?    

Sally - I'm great. And you?

Write a dialogue in English between two people who are meeting for the first time.
