In Lesson 1 we studied the rules for forming plurals in English. Many words do not follow these rules to form the plural. These are irregular words. Below is a list of some words that have irregular plurals, grouped by category.
You add the letters E and N to the end of the word to form the plural with these words.
child - children
man - men
woman - women
You change the double O to a double E in these words to form the plural.
foot - feet
tooth - teeth
goose - geese
Change the -ouse ending for -ice in these words to form the plural.
mouse - mice
louse - lice
Change the -is ending to -es to form the plural with these words.
parenthesis - parentheses
diagnosis - diagnoses
Change the -us ending to -i to form the plural.
cactus - cacti
fungus - fungi
These words are the same in the singular and plural forms.
deer - deer
fish - fish
moose - moose
sheep - sheep
person - people
Change these words to the plural.
Write a sentence with an irregular plural.
