This page: The pronunciation of the letters J and G in English

We always pronounce the letter J as /dʒ/ (phonetic symbol). The /dʒ/ sound is produced by touching the tongue against the roof of the mouth and is a voiced sound, meaning we use our vocal cords to make it. Click the audio link below to listen to and repeat the sound.
We pronounce the letter G as /dʒ/ when it appears before the letters e, i, or y, and as /g/ when it appears before other letters. Both are voiced sounds, meaning we use our vocal cords to produce them.
The first word on each line has the /dʒ/ sound. The second has the /g/ sound. Click on the word to hear and repeat the pronunciation.
